Crews investigate after wall into Metro bus tunnel collapses 

Yikes.. this is no good. Walls collapsing?  Glad nobody was hurt.

A portion of a retaining wall has collapsed in a tunnel that leads to the Metro Transit base in Shoreline.

Idled Bertha may add $78M to its cost for tunnel, state says | The Seattle Times

I know there are a lot of concerns about Bertha, and these stories never seem to end.  We, like many other regions globally, have had delays, cost overruns, etc.  I think this is more aligned with the bidding process than it is the poor planning.  (of which we have a lot)

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) says it expects to lose $78 million because of the two-year stall of tunnel-boring machine Bertha, according to a letter from the state project team to insurers.

How should we fix traffic in West Seattle?

If you live in West Seattle, you have to be on your toes about traffic and transportation. A problem on the bridge can ruin your whole week.City council member Tom Rasmussen is hosting a meeting next week to find out what drivers think should be done to fix traffic in the area.

Sounds like you may want to attend this if you live in West Seattle.  The bridge traffic is going to get significantly worse.. and it’s not good now.

WSDOT – Funding – 2015 Unfunded Priority List

The 2015 Update to the Unfunded Priority List (pdf 100 kb) reflects the departments proposed investments for consideration during legislative new revenue discussions.  This version is an update from what was used during the 2013 Senate Transportation Forums (listening sessions) across the state. Significant changes have been made to the layout and presentation of the report.

WSDOT Online Map Center

The WSDOT Online Map Center is an interactive web mapping site designed for users of every skill level. The Map Center offers WSDOT staff and the general public an opportunity to view WSDOT data and map products. This platform allows users to make more informed decisions by providing a collaborative environment for the visual display of spatial and tabular data.

Interesting they are providing this data.  Check out the Community Planning Portal to see a bunch of overlay data.  Very cool.

WSDOT News – 2015 – Bridge conditions improve throughout state

WSDOT recently published its quarterly performance and accountability report, the Gray Notebook, and states that 92.1 percent of state-owned bridges measured by deck area are in fair or better condition. It is an improvement from 91.4 percent in 2010, and shows about a 700,000 square foot reduction in the bridges by deck area that were in poor condition.
